Professor Theo Theoharis returns in March 2024 for a class on "Staging Family Life." 

From the Ancient Greeks until now, family life-- the scene of love, betrayal, solidarity, strife, glee and grief --has been one of the most, if not the most, portrayed set of relationships in the theater. In this class we will start with Chekhov, rightly regarded as the inventor of modern drama, then move through Shaw, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller. Among other topics, we will consider what these subsequent dramatists made of the innovations in portraying plot, character, scene, and dialogue that Chekhov set in motion.
